It’s almost time for your South Texas Deer Hunt. Before you pack those suitcases and jump on an airplane or in your pickup truck, be sure to read through this list of frequently asked questions. We want to make sure you are well prepared to hunt Texas whitetails and enjoy your time with us.

What if I have little to no experience hunting?

Our guides will be with you to give you the best tips and show you the ropes as you chase big Texas whitetail bucks.

What is the benefit of having a guided hunt?

Throughout the hunt, our guides serve not only as trackers but also as mentors, providing instruction and tips geared to help you become an even better hunter. Whether you’re a new hunter looking to learn the ropes or an experienced marksman seeking to sharpen your skills, our guided hunts make for an unforgettable hunting adventure. Hunting guides at El Monte Gringo Ranch are patient educators, ready to share their knowledge of effective stalking strategies, accurate shooting techniques, and the proper harvest of game.

What happens to any game I kill?

Following your successful Texas whitetail deer hunt, your guide at El Monte Gringo Ranch transitions into the final, yet equally important phase of the hunt. After you have your pictures taken with your trophy Texas whitetail, El Monte Gringo staff will quarter harvest the deer and transport them to a local processor or taxidermist on the hunter’s behalf.

What amenities and activities are available besides hunting?

Our South Texas hunting lodge is equipped with all the amenities of home so that you can relax while you’re with us. Our amenities include, high speed WiFi, a washer and a dryer, a fully stocked bar, an industrial kitchen with chef’s quarters, a coffee/espresso bar, a pool and a jacuzzi, a shuffleboard table, a pool table, a poker table, a merchandise shop, a gym, a massage room, indoor and outdoor lounging areas, a campfire ring, a BBQ pit, and a fishing pond.

What is the sleeping arrangement?

Each room comes with a smart tv and private bathroom. 2 secluded king size master suites, 4 queen size master suites with a private patio, 2 bedrooms with 2 queen size beds, 1 bedroom with 2 full size beds, 2 bedrooms with 2 twin sized beds, 3rd floor with 4 full sized beds, 2 wheelchair accessible rooms with a full size bed.

What kind of food is cooked?

At the El Monte Gringo Ranch, you can expect any of the following cuisine: South Texas breakfast, Texas BBQ, burgers, game featured dishes and, of course, Tex-mex dishes.

What kind of gun and ammo do you recommend?

We recommend any rifle above 243 caliber and 6.5. 

For large game, Barnes bullet and 300 mag+ are recommended.

What else should I bring for hunts?

Your Texas hunting license, binoculars, snake boots/guards, neck gaiter, bug spray,  and sunblock.

What do I need to do to prepare if I want to hunt?

To prepare for your South Texas Trophy hunt, you should be sure to practice with your equipment of choice. You should shoot through several rounds of target practice and make sure you are comfortable with the gun and ammo you plan to use.
